Reduces Heating and Cooling Tonnage by 33%
As the wheel rotates it transfers heat and/or moisture between two airstreams at different temperatures and humidities, typically the outside and return airstreams. Wheels essentially pre-treat the outdoor airstream, examples for an enthalpy wheel below.
IN SUMMER … The outside air is hot and humid – the inside air is cool and dry. The cool, dry return air conditions are transferred to the supply air, making the supply air entering the cooling coil cooler and dryer. Thus reducing the required cooling capacity for the cooling coil.
IN WINTER … The opposite occurs. The outside air is cold and dry – the inside air is warm and somewhat humid. The wheel transfers energy from the return air to the supply air, making it warm and wetter and reducing the heating capacity needs
In both cases, Thermowheel Energy Recovery Ventilation enhances indoor air quality (IAQ), while dramatically lowering energy costs.
Wheels have between 55-80% effectiveness in transferring heat and/or moisture from one airstream to the other.
