The TR SERIES THERMOWHEELTM.* Is designed from the ground up to be installed in the field as a replacement for existing heat recovery wheel products. The TR SERIES is a direct replacement for, Berner, Cargocaire Semco, Regenerative Heat Corp., Enreco, Governair, Flakt, Wing, Carnes, Heat Recovery Corp., Munters and others. Retrofit Information

OVERVIEW OF TR SERIES SYSTEM DESIGN:

A typical energy recovery wheel consists of 3 major parts: the rotor which holds the media in place, the motor drive that powers the rotor, and the seals, which keep the air flowing through the media. After performing hundreds of field installations of other manufacturers’ wheels, the engineers at Thermotech have redesigned each of the major components to solve many of the problems we have encountered in the field. Our new TR SERIES THERMOWHEELTM.* design is the result of years of testing in the real world.
ROTOR ASSEMBLY:
Most rotors consist of 3 main parts: hub and bearing assembly, spokes and rim. Wheels larger then 10’ in diameter are typically built in 8 sections. Each section consists of media supported by spokes and tensioned in place by the rim.  Non-segmented rotors use the media as a structural component of the rotor leading to de-lamination failure at the hub. All Thermowheel rotors are fully segmented.
RIM TENSIONING:
The THERMOWHEELTM.* system was designed to be installed in the field. Unlike all other replacement wheels, the THERMOWHEELTM.* has a unique rim and spoke design which allows for each section of the wheel to be tensioned independently. This makes for a flatter, rounder and stronger wheel.
SPOKE SYSTEM:
Spokes provide the structural integrity to limit deflection of the wheel and to eliminate mechanical fatigue of the media. Our spokes are extruded aluminum fashioned in the form of an “I” beam for added strength. Each spoke has grooves which correspond to matching grooves machined into the media. This assures that each section of media is held securely in the exact position needed for a flat wheel.
RIM SYSTEM:
The rim holds each section of media in place and provides an area for the belts that drive the wheel to ride. Our rims are made from extruded aluminum and have “V” shaped grooves for the drive belts and corresponding ridges on the inside diameter that fit into grooves machined in the media. This holds the media in proper position and provides a round and flat wheel. These grooves also keeps the drive belts securely seated.
HUB and BEARING SYSTEM:
The hub and bearing assembly support the wheel in the frame. To guarantee years of trouble free operation we machine, in our shop, each of the massive hubs from steel or aluminum depending on the application. We mate them with over sized internal or external bearings and provide easy to access grease fittings for each bearing.
CASING FRAME STRUCTURE:
The structural frame of the existing casing will remain intact to avoid any disconnection of the duct transitions and resulting interruption of the operation. The frame structure will be upgraded as necessary to achieve an acceptable rotor deflection of maximum 1/32", as measured at the outer radius, during maximum rated airflow condition.
SEAL SYSTEM:
Seals must be strong, flexible and not move once in place. To achieve this, we make our seal out of two parts. One is an extruded aluminum strip that can be secured directly to the wheel frame. The second piece is an extruded rubber seal which is permanently attached to the aluminum strip. Because our wheel design creates a very flat wheel we can position our seals very close to the wheel face and bolt them securely in place.
MOTOR DRIVE SYSTEM:
Our motor drive system uses simple gravity to tension and hold the belts in place. Our motors feature variable or constant speed drive depending on the application. We use standard “V” belts available at most supply stores since this is the only part of a THERMOWHEELTM.* which should ever need replacing.
CONTROL SYSTEM:
The control system and sensors measure
the temperature of the different air streams and control the wheel speed for maximum
efficiency.
Our control system can be configured to provide the proper operation of the energy recovery wheel in all conditions and environments. We can custom configure the sensors so that the customer obtains the data and control required to ensure the highest operational efficiency. We can provide the interface to any existing HVAC control system.
MEDIA:
The media provides for the transfer of heat and moisture between the air-streams.

We provide standard, "Balanced Sieve" media with a 4A desiccant for high performance and superior contaminant control. Performance tested in accordance with ASHRAE Standard 84-91 and ARI Standards 1060-2000.
We also have media available from different manufacturers for all applications from high temperature to corrosive environments.

3A desiccant-coated media available on request.

All media is supplied with a standard epoxy coating or an optional, patented "Thermoguard" Anti-Corrosion / anti-mold coating. The media is machined at our shop to fit securely in the THERMOWHEELTM.* spoke and rim system that is integral to the structural strength of the wheel.
INSTALLATION:
The installation of the TR SERIES THERMOWHEELTM.* system is the final key to solving your heat wheel replacement needs. The installation can be performed by our trained technicians or by your staff with our supervision. Many of the design elements incorporated in the TR SERIES THERMOWHEELTM.* make installation in the field much simpler than with any other replacement wheel. THERMOWHEELTM.* Provides a flatter, stronger more efficient wheel every time.
